Thane: Three persons, including a minor, suffered severe burn injures after a fire broke out at a chawl in Wagle Estate on Saturday morning. The blaze took place due to an LPG cylinder leak at a house in Santoshi Mata chawl.
The 13-year-old girl Gudiya Tiwari is said to be critical with 60% burns, while her cousin brother’s Nilesh Chaube (26) and Ved Tiwari (22) suffered 25% and 18% burns, respectively.

“The incident took place at around 8:30am when Gudiya was cooking. She allegedly tried to light the gas without realizing that it was leaking. The ground-plus-one structure went up in flames and the three suffered severe burns,” said sub-inspector of Srinagar police station S Tungenwar.
“There is a possibility that the girl had left the gas on but had forgotten to light it. After a while when she went to light the gas, it caught fire. Another reason could be that there was a gas leak in the pipe. Without realising this, the minor lit the gas and it caught fire,’’ said Thane Regional Disaster Management Centre chief Santosh Kadam.
The families of all the trio have been informed. All of them hail from Uttar Pradesh and are living here on rent. The cops are planning to shift them to a private hospital.
