Bhubaneswar: Around hundred school students were taken ill after eating mid-day meal (MDM) in Kendupali upper primary school under Birmaharajpur police limits in Subarnapur district on Saturday morning.
The conditions of the students are stable. They are all being treated at Birmaharajpur hospital.
Following the incident, angry parents confined five teachers of the school to one classroom and locked the door from outside.
They didn’t open the door till they got information that students were recovering. Police reached the school to tackle the situation.
Police sources said the students were served egg curry, dal and rice in the MDM. “First, 30 students, who ate the MDM in the first batch, complained of colic. Subsequently, 70 other students also came up with same complain. The students were admitted to Birmaharajpur hospital. Which item of the MDM caused colic is being investigated,” said IIC, Birmaharajpur police station Hemanta Rao.
Sources said the affected students from class one to class VII. “Six students, who were a little serious, have also recovered,” Rao added.
Parents have demanded that the cause of food poisoning be brought to light immediately. However, they suspected that egg quality was not good.
