AHMEDABAD: Winning is a habit and Aurora FC appear to have developed one, albeit very late. After losing 10 games on the trot, Aurora FC finally got their act together last week by registering their first win by beating Olive Republic 1-0 in the Mazaa and Juggernaut Five-A-Side Ahmedabad Champions League Football Tournament at Juggernaut Arena.
On Wednesday, they put up another fine show on the field and seem to have really got into the groove as they registered their second consecutive victory in the League against much fancied opponents Ganesh Lions.
They thrashed Lions 3-0, much to the delight of the crowd.
After a barren first half, the deadlock was broken in the 23rd minute when Nathan Gomes slotted home from a Jayendra Grum corner. Aurora kicked on from there and Jayendra scored a brilliant solo goal in the 24th minute to double up the lead. The finishing touches were given in the 36th minute when Rahul Bhatia scored through an Abhijeet Singhi assist to make it 3-0 putting the game beyond Lions’ reach. With this win, Aurora FC climbed from the bottom of the table to seventh place overtaking Olive Republic.
In the second match of the night, KPS Mavericks and Olive Republic played out a 0-0 draw. The match saw few clear cut chances in terms of scoring but both the teams defended well to deny the other. The match saw some late drama when Nitin Singh of Mavericks was shown a red card in the 35th minute. However, Republic could not drive home the advantage of the having the numerical superiority as they failed to convert close chances.
