Xiaomi may have made the Mi 5 official, but that hasn’t stopped the flood of rumors about the handset from pouring in. The latest whisper making its way around the internet is that there will be a Windows 10 variant of the smartphone in addition to the Android one.
This is definitely surprising news, but is not altogether unprecedented. To recollect, Xiaomi and Microsoft had joined hands last year to release a Windows 10 ROM for the Mi 4 in December. The partnership had also resulted in the creation of a Mi Pad 2 running the OS which had gotten released on 26 January 2016.
According to GizmoChina, the Windows 10-running Mi 5 will feature the same set of specifications as its Android sibling. If the speculation is true, it will be interesting to see how many takers of the former there will be, considering the overwhelming popularity of the latter OS.
A rapid take on the rumored specifications of the Xiaomi Mi 5:
– OS: Android 5.1 Lollipop-based MIUI 7
– Display: 5.2-inch, QHD/FHD
– Cameras: 16MP rear, 13MP front
– Processor: quad-core Snapdragon 820
– GPU: Adreno 530

Xiaomi VP Hugo Barra recently took to his Twitter account to announce that the Mi 5 would be unveiled through a media preview event at the Mobile World Congress on February 24 in Barcelona, Spain. It’s the first time the brand is making an appearance at the MWC. The company is also launching the device in China on the same day.
