In a chat with ET Now, Neeraj Dewan, Quantum Securities, says market is handsomely rewarding good stocks

ET Now: It has been a day of really good numbers. Almost everything from the largecap to midcap to smallcap companies have come out with very good numbers be it Eicher, Vijaya Bank or Lupin. There are a couple of other ancillary companies which came out with surprisingly good numbers as well. What is happening? What is standing out for you in terms of today’s releases?

Neeraj Dewan: In the last three-four days, we did not see any good numbers coming and the markets were subdued since last Friday. But I think the kind of numbers which have come out have seen that though some stocks might be expensive on valuations, if the numbers are good, the stocks are being rewarded handsomely. One case in point is Bajaj Finance. The stock is at a rich valuation but the kind of growth and asset quality that they have, quarter on quarter, are showing improvement. So that stock is continuously trading at a high valuation. Similarly, in case of Eicher Motor and Lupin, with better numbers, they are giving indications that the stock will be performing better.

ET Now: A word on the other name which is rather doing well for itself in today’s session. We are seeing a lot of traction in the PSU banking space. Next week is going to be big for PSU banks because PNB, BoB, SBI come out with numbers. What do you do in this pack? Is there a preferred bet? Would you go out and buy SBI irrespective of what numbers they give out next week?

Neeraj Dewan: Yes. Though I have been bullish on PSU banks which has been proved wrong because the stocks have really corrected in the last couple of weeks but at these levels, I would rather wait to increase our position. Let the results come out because though most of the bad news is priced in and people are anyway expecting a disastrous set of results, people are giving all sort of numbers as far as NPA losses are concerned. Most of it is already priced in but I would say the last leg happens at the time the results are declared. Even if I have to buy a little more expensive, since the stocks are anyway at very beaten down valuations, I would be comfortable buying them one by one.
