Set up helpline for pet owners

ANIMAL lovers in this country welcome the Taiping magistrate court’s decision to fine an unemployed woman for neglecting her female pet Rottweiler, “Woman fined RM4,000 for neglecting dog” (The Star, Feb 4). It was reported that the woman had not given the dog food or water for several days. The dog was rescued by Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) officers with assistance from the police.

I applaud the DVS for its timely intervention and for successfully taking the case to court, ensuring that the perpetrator was appropriately punished for the crime.
