11 Ways WhatsApp Has Changed Our Lives Forever
It was in 2010, when technology took a leap and we all surrendered in a way that we’d never had. It was when WhatsApp entered our lives only to change things forever. It’s been 6 years and clearly there’s no looking back. Whether we have Facebook or Twitter on our phone or not, there’s no way we can survive without the baap of all apps - WhatsApp .
Today, as it gets to a user base of 1 billion, of which we are all a part, let’s take a look at how it has transformed our lives.
1. Forget online shopping. There’s WhatsApp shopping.
2. Work emails are outdated. Instead, Whatsapp groups take charge of deadlines.
No one waits for the next day for an urgent task to be completed. They simply send it on the group and it’s taken care of in minutes. Come on, we all are a part of some or the other work group. Maybe even more than one.
3. Going to the chemist isn’t mandatory. Just send the prescription on WhatsApp.
It’s simple, it’s really, really simple. Just send a picture of your medical prescription. Chemists are able to read it and the medicines will be sent home. In fact, I know people who have consulted doctors through WhatsApp.
4. Thanks to WhatsApp groups , the world has become smaller, and distances shorter.
We now have school friends groups, college groups, grad school groups and several other reunion groups. Even though WhatsApp groups can be quite irritating, you can’t deny that you are connected with several friends and family all at once.
5. Help arrives sooner than ever.
WhatsApp has changed the way the world looks at news. During the Nepal Earthquake and the Paris attacks, people reached out for aid through WhatsApp. Moreover, during the Chennai floods, some men were providing students with books through WhatsApp. There have also been incidents where lives have been saved because of WhatsApp.
6. Door bells have been replaced by WhatsApp pings.
We don’t bother ringing the bell of our friend’s house if we are waiting for someone. We simply ping them on WhatsApp telling them that we are outside.
7. Thanks to the blue ticks, people now have the right to call you an insensitive b****.
According to us, the blue ticks are WhatsApp’s worst feature. You cannot ignore people without letting them know. If you haven’t replied despite reading the message, then you are clearly an insensitive prick who does not care. Hah!
8. Thanks to WhatsApp, you even think of god once in a while.
We don’t know if God exists or not. But every other day, we get forwarded messages with verses from the Gita or Bible, or quotes from different gods. This feature is most common on Family WhatsApp groups.
9. It’s become simpler to call or text people on special occasions like festivals.
Remember how international calling used to be so expensive? Well, gone are the days. Whatsapp has made it easy to call people living miles away. Who knows? It may even have a video calling feature too!
10. Sadly, WhatsApp has reduced face to face communication.
There was a time when people would make the effort of calling that distant friend on their birthday. Now, we just prefer to send a text. And unless it’s extremely important, we just don’t call.
11. Thankfully, our phone bills have plateaued.
Can we thank god enough for it? Hell no!
