“While women share 60 per cent of the work, they have only a one per cent of economic rights or property rights,” Principal Secretary of Backward Classes Department Shalini Rajneesh said here on Friday, quoting from a study.

She was inaugurating the first women conclave organised as part of a two-day conference of entrepreneurs TiECon-2016 organised by the Hubballi Chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) here.

Quoting from a Forbes study, Ms. Rajneesh said that it had revealed that women CEOs were doing better than their male counterparts and as a result, 51 per cent of the people the study surveyed preferred women CEOs.

Sharing her own experience as a bureaucrat and the responsibilities handled by her, Ms. Rajneesh threw light on what it takes to become a woman entrepreneur.

“Women can become good entrepreneurs as they are good at cutting down costs and increasing efficiency and revenue. But for becoming an entrepreneur, one should be ready to take the risk and at the same time, one should have determination to proceed further, irrespective of the debacles,” she said.

Briefing about the key initiatives by the State government, especially for promoting woman entrepreneurs, she asked them to make use of the facilities extended to them.

Small ideas

Sharing her experience, Managing Director of Hubballi Electricity Supply Company Khusbhoo Goel Chowdhary said that small ideas could bring in lot of changes and one should incorporate smaller ideas after one decides to convert his idea into a business.

Ms. Chowdhary said that despite the positive changes, women in rural India were still deprived of opportunities. She added that gender inequality would go only when women were ensured of a choice.

Chief General Manager of State Bank of India Rajini Mishra said: “Women need to work harder to prove themselves and also to prove they are serious about their career. And unless one took the challenge, there is no way to progress.” Ms. Mishra highlighted the need for woman entrepreneurs to keep themselves updated through official and unofficial channels and prepare themselves to face the challenges.

Founder of Deshpande Foundation Jaishree Deshpande, TiE Hubballi chapter president Gautam Ostwal and secretary Shashidhar Shettar were present.

Event convenor Jyoti Bidasaria compered the inaugural session.
