MELBOURNE Auckland Nines skipper Blake Green hopes the captaincy is a step in the right direction to securing a new deal with the Storm.

One of 14 players in the club’s top squad off contract in 2016, the five-eighth has been promoted into the Storm’s senior leadership group this year.

The 29-year-old is entering into his second season with Craig Bellamy’s side after returning from a four-year stint playing in the English Super League.

Having felt like he’s found a home, Green is hopeful of securing a new deal.

“We’ll wait to the season starts and see how it pans out,” Green told foxpsorts.com.au of his future.

“I’m really enjoying my time at Melbourne — I’d be happy to stay — it’s been a good fit for me so hopefully it all works out.”

Somewhat of an NRL journey man, Green starred in the Storm’s 14-4 win over Parramatta during their first game of the Nines on Saturday.

Green produced a pinpoint accurate kick to the corner to set up Richie Kennar and later followed it up with a solo try, stepping his way through the line.

A former Eel, Shark and Bulldog, Green is now an important part of the club’s spine alongside Cameron Smith, Cooper Cronk and Billy slater.

As a half and now part of the club’s leadership group, Green revealed that he’d found his voice within the team.

“I’m certainly comfortable enough to express my opinions on things whether it’s talking about a game or video session,” he said.

“It’s been an easy fit for me at the club.”
