SC refuses to intervene

February 06, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:37 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to entertain a plea seeking its intervention in the ongoing stir of the MCD employees in the Capital.

The apex court said that it cannot “take over” the functions of the Delhi High Court.

“We are not supposed to take over the functions of the Delhi High Court. Don’t come to us against any interim order,” a bench led by Chief Justice T.S. Thakur said.

The court asked petitioner Rahul Birla to return to the High Court with his grievances.

The counsel for Mr. Birla had sought the intervention of the apex court on the ground that no effective hearing had taken place in the High Court.

In fact, the petition said that the High Court had simply adjourned the matter for further hearing for February 10.

Mr. Birla had earlier filed a PIL in the High Court claiming that sanitation staffers refuse to remove garbage from the streets as they have not been allegedly paid their salaries since 2003.
