Woman delivers in van as potholes on Bhiwandi road induce labour
Bhiwandi: A seven months pregnant woman gave birth to a boy in a private van while travelling to her mother’s home in Vada on Thursday morning. Doctors claimed the bumpy ride between Bhiwandi and Vada due to the potholes triggered the premature delivery. The baby has been kept in an incubator. Ranjana Mukne (22) was travelling with her husband Sudam and mother-in-law Pramila in a van. Sudam said, “Due to the bumpy ride caused by the potholes, my wife developed abdominal pain.
So, instead of taking her to her mother’s place, we drove to IGM Hospital in Bhiwandi. But she delivered before we could reach the hospital.”
The driver, Keshav Patil, said, “I was driving slowly and cautiously, but the road is pockmarked with potholes. Each time my van passed over a pothole, Ranjana’s pain worsened.”
In the past, citizens as well as the Opposition have demanded that the civic authority fill the potholes.
