GHMC polls: 17 'tainted' corporators among winners

Among the 150 newly-elected GHMC corporators, 17 have criminal antecedents and all of them belong to Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) parties, the two major winners in the civic polls.

HYDERABAD: Among the 150 newly-elected GHMC corporators, 17 have criminal antecedents and all of them belong to Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) parties, the two major winners in the civic polls.
Out of the 72 candidates with criminal past who contested the polls, 17 got elected - nine from AIMIM and eight from TRS.
The Congress and TDP-BJP winners have no criminal history.
The AIMIM corporators with police case history include Falaknuma corporator K Thara Bai, who is accused in an assault case, Shalibanda corporator Md Mustafa Ali with six cases of rioting and trespass charges, and Mehdipatnam corporator and former GHMC mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain with two cases registered against him for assaulting a public servant and house trespass.
Chawni corporator Md Murtaza Ali, with four cases pertaining to trespass and mischief, and Dabeerpura corporator Mirza Riyaz Ul Hassan Effendi with two cases against him for hurting a public servant and violation of prohibitory orders are also among the winners.
Riyasath Nagar corporator Mirza Mustafa Baig has a case pertaining to an assault, Akber Bagh corporator Syed Minhajuddin has two assault cases, Kishan Bagh corporator Mohammed Saleem has a rioting case and Jahanuma corporator Khaja Mubasheeruddin has a trespass and criminal intimidation case against him.
There are several TRS corporators with criminal antecedents, including Champapet corporator S Ramana Reddy, who has a murder case against him, Khairatabad corporator P Vijaya Reddy with an election related case, Gudimalkapur corporator Bangari Prakash charged with assaulting a public servant and Serilingampally corporator R Nagender Yadav with a cheating and forgery case, are among the victors.

Old Bowenpally corporator Narasimha Yadav with two election related cases, Cherlapally corporator B Ram Mohan with three criminal cases, Borabanda corporator Baba Faisuddin with a case of assaulting public servant and Malkajgiri corporator N Jagadeeshwar Goud with a rioting and wrongful restraint case are also among the list of winners.
Among the 'tainted' corporators, Falaknuma corporator K Thara Bai is the only woman. While Shalibanda corporator Md Mustafa Ali is the corporator with maximum number of cases (six) and Champapet corporator Ramana Reddy has a murder case booked against him.
