Shakhtar Donetsk star Alex Teixeira has accused Liverpool of not making a serious enough attempt to sign him during the January transfer window. The 26-year-old completed a shock move to Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning on 5 February for a fee of £38.4m ($55.9m), an Asian transfer record.

The move came just weeks after Liverpool saw an offer of £24.5m rejected by Shakhtar. The Reds were unwilling to match the Ukrainian side's valuation of their prized asset, despite the attacking midfielder making clear it was his "dream" to play in the Premier League.

But in a final interview with his soon-to-be former club, Teixeira accused Liverpool of failing make a good enough offer.

He told Shakhtar's official website: "Let's put it like this: everyone always knew that I wanted to stay in Europe and move to the English Premier League club. But, unfortunately, all the proposals that came from them were somewhat windy and did not contain anything concrete. Now I have received a serious offer from China. Of course, I'm moving there. At this stage, Brazil national team will move away from me a little further. But let's see what happens in the future."

Teixeira is the latest high-profile name to be recruited by heavily backed Chinese clubs. The midfielder will immediately link up with another Brazilian in former Chelsea star Ramires, who left Stamford Bridge to sign for Jiangsu Suning foe £25m.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the club have also tried to sign another Brazilian in Chelsea midfielder Oscar for an eye-watering £75m. The report claims Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has rejected the staggering offer but adds the Chinese club are likely to return with another bid at the end of the season.

China's position as one of world football's most powerful emerging forces was underlined in January. Guangzhou Evergrande have also signed Colombia international Jackson Martinez from Atletico Madrid, while former Arsenal forward Gervinho has joined Hebei China Fortune.
