Reportedly, 33,60,543 voters out of 74,23,980 cast their votes, including one voter who had Salman Khan's id card and name. The election will test the TRS's strength in Hyderabad and has been in the news for their victory in the Warangal Lok Sabha elections

According to early media reports, the TRS making big gains winning 102 seats, whereas NDA ally TDP is facing a massive set-back while Congress is virtually wiped out compared to 52 in 209.  Among the biggest upsets was Congress former mayor Kartheeka Reddy getting defeated by TRS in Tarkana, Kondapur TRS candidate Hameed Patel winning, Congress' mayor candidate Vikram Goud losing and former Hyderabad Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy of Cong party lost the GHMC election at ward. As of now the TRS has won 82, MIM 30, BJP 3, TDP 1, Congres 1 and others 0.

GHMC election was seen to be a "prestigious battle" as it was the first election of the civic body after formation of Telangana, which was carved out of Andhra Pradesh in 2014. The TRS performance was seen to be a spectacular one given it had not contested the previous GHMC polls in 2009. The KCR-led party had bagged only three Assembly seats out of the total 24 that fall under the civic body limits, in Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections of 2009. The results are particularly a loss of face for the Congress which had shared power with AIMIM in GHMC. The Congress had bagged 55 seats in GHMC election in 2009 while AIMIM won 43 seats and the TDP-BJP, not in alliance then, collectively won 50.
