Kian, you should also address the question of why nobody from NLSIU ends up teaching at NLSIU. The corrupt lobby which only hires grads of third-rate colleges in Karnataka and Andhra will be exposed.
That way LI never blocks comments when the moderator is facing flak. If LI ever publishes a report comparing NLU faculty at least they will not block people criticising the article.
I just hope CLAT candidates are not misled by B&B.
Considering the awful level of faculty at NUJS after news from their Alumni at hindustan today.
You should only compare full-time faculty who are actually teaching. Not visiting professors who never show up.
Also randomly publishing stuff on the NLUD website does not count as a publications. Only ooks by reputed publishers and law journals count as publications.
We've been toying with the idea of evaluating law school faculty for quite a while actually but yes, limited editorial resources and some other practical issues have delayed this.
Will look at it anew though and find out if there's a way to come up with something credible and transparent.
Tier II - HKRC moot. RMLNLU won best memorial.
Those general unfounded bias continue, right? :P
1. Instead of having a ranking system have a grading system of NLUs, so that multiple law schools can get the same grade and there is less controversy over which NLU is the best.
2. Have a committee of 10 eminent and impartial people overseeing this (e.g. Prof Menon, Prof Baxi, academicians based abroad, Zia Mody, Jyoti Sagar, senior advocates, law firm partners based abroad etc). Let them make the decision. Also disclose who gave what grade to what university.
3. Do not follow the criteria by Bar & Bench. Instead, the criteria should be as follows:
a) Student satisfaction (randomly survey 50 students of each college)
b) Alumni feedback (survey alumni)
c) Papers in journals published abroad
d) Academic qualifications (more points if profs have BALLBs from NLUs and LLMs/PhDs from good universities abroad, zero points for graduates of crap colleges)
5. You can also have subject-wise rankings (best faculty in corporate, best in criminal etc).
4. Tie up with a reputed media house if you want people to take the rankings seriously (e.g. Bloomberg, Forbes, NDTV, CNBC etc)
5. One problem is that you need up to date information and accurate information. The best way is to file RTI applications at all NLUs seeking the above information. For publications you should ask for citations. If law schools are reluctant to supply you with info, approach governing body members of the different NLUs and ask them for help.
Also, one should understand that it is not just the fault of VCs that NLUs do not attract good faculty. The central government has not given NLUs the same designation as IITs and IIMs, which means that the salaries are lower and perks are less. Although the difference between IIM salaries and NLU salaries are not much, the IIM fee is very high and it is used to pay faculty better salaries.
The effort should be to present the study to the law minister and improve NLUs, rather than create sensationalist stories that this NLU is best, this NLU is worst etc.
