Warrant issued against Roopesh

Kochi: The special NIA court here has issued production warrants against Maoist leader Roopesh and Anoop Mathew of Pathanamthitta in the case wherein a policeman was attacked by an armed gang at Vellamunda in Wayanad last year. The court issued the warrants in the wake of the NIA taking over the probe. The duo is to be produced before court on Saturday .
The accused are currently lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison.
Roopesh, his wife Shyna and Anoop were arrested along with two others from the outskirts of Coimbatore in May 2015.
As per the FIR, Roopesh and three women broke into the house of senior civil police officer A B Pramod on April 24, 2015. They trained their guns on him and threa tened to kill him.
They also asked him to quit his job and set fire to his motorcycle before leaving.
As per the state police's charge sheet, Rejeesh of Thikkodi and Ibrahim are the other accused. Anoop, Rejeesh and Ibrahim helped Roopesh carry out the attacks. The three women are yet to be identified. The NIA 's Kochi unit took over the case after a Union home ministry order on December 14.
