Kochi: Children of high court's staff are eligible for the preference granted in admissions to Kendriya Vidyalaya schools just like state government employees, said high court. Justice A Muhamed Mustaque issued the order after considering a petition filed by MG Antony of Kumbalangi, who is a personal assistant to a high court judge, regarding the admission of his six-year-old son Aldus Antony .

Admission to Class I was sought for Aldus in the Kendriya Vidyalaya schools run by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), namely KV INS Dronacharya, KV-I, KV-II, and KV Port Trust. Category of parent's employment was to be stated in the application and options given were for central government, autonomous body of central government, state government, autonomous body of state government, and others.
The petitioner had applied under the state government category on the basis of a service certificate issued by the high court. However, the Kendriya Vidyalaya school managements disagreed with some including the petitioner as working in a private organization whereas some others included him in the category of autonomous body of state government. As a result, admission was denied to the petitioner's son for the academic year 2015-16.
In a petition filed before the high court through advocate Murali Purushothaman, the petitioner contended that an employee of the high court who draws salary from the consolidated fund of the state will come under the category of state government.
