Marathi Tigers not to be released in Karnataka

The controversial Marathi movie Marathi Tigers will not be released in Karnataka today in the wake of its sensitive subject.

The movie, which focuses on Karnataka and Maharashtra border dispute, depicts Kannadigas in poor light, claims the state government. Theatre owners, particularly in districts bordering Maharashtra, refused to screen the movie fearing a law and order situation.

Though the Karnataka High Court directed the state government to take an appropriate step with regard to its release, the latter did not intervene.

Upset with the response, the film-makers are planning to release the movie in touring talkies, particularly in Belagavi district, where significant number of Maharashtrians are present.
