MANGALURU: The two PU students who went missing three days ago were traced to Shoranur in Palakkad district, Kerala, on Thursday .
Police said Jacqueline D'Sa and Smriti, residents of Chilimbi and Suratkal respectively , were found near the railway station at Shoranur.
With moral policing cases on the rise in Mangaluru, there were several theories about the girls doing the rounds from a love affair going sour, abduction to poor academic performance.
Police, however, said they ran away as they were `unhappy with whatever they had in life', and wanted to lead a better life on their own.
Both Jaqueline and Smrithi, first year commerce students of St Aloysius College here, had been missing since February 1.
FB friend picked up:
Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has alleged that after the girls went missing, Nisar, a II PU student of a private college, was picked up by police for his alleged role in their disappearance. When cops went through the WhatsApp messages of the girls, several from Nisar gave rise to suspicion that he may have abducted them. The girls had left their cellphones behind.
BK Imtiyaz Kana, vice-president of DYFI, said Nisar had befriended the two girls on Facebook. They used to chat and eventually exchanged contact numbers. But they never met, fearing the wrath of moral goons.
On Tuesday , soon after college hours, police picked up Nisar for questioning and later handed him over to the CCB team headed by an inspector who allegedly assaulted him by administering a mild electric shock. Imtiyaz claims that Nisar was abused verbally during questioning.
