Five detained for murder

Police on Wednesday arrested under the Goondas Act five suspects in the murder of a Puratchi Bharatham member in Ayanavaram. Police said Arivazhagan, a member of Puratchi Bharatham who lived in Villivakkam was hacked to death by Viji, Harish, Sudhakar, Nandagopal and Logu alias Yogaraj.
House burgled: Burglars broke into the house of a bank employee in Anna Nagar on Wednesday night.Johnson, 38, told police the burglars took 25 sovereigns of gold jewellery from his house.
Man with knife held: Police nabbed a young man for barging into a compartment of an MRTS train with a knife at Perungudi railway station. Police said the youth had followed a woman commuter from a tea shop till she entered the train. The man was identified as Abhishek, a migrant worker, he had been held for chain snatching.
Chain snatchers held:
Alert public in Maduravoyal nabbed two chain snatchers who snatched a 15 sovereign gold chain and were about to escape on their two-wheeler.
Police said Gunashekar ,48, and his wife Gandhimathi, 45, were walking in Alapakkam when the men tried snatching Gandhimathi's chain. They were thrashed and handed over to the Valasaravakkam police, who identified them as Rajesh, a fish vendor, and Dinesh, a school student.
