A total of 351 cricketers will go under the hammer when the Indian Premier League’s auction for the ninth edition takes place in Bengaluru on Saturday, 6 February.

Eight teams will participate in the auctions - Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiants.

The two new teams — Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions — have replaced the suspended Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. During the initial IPL draft which took place in December for the two new teams, they were given to pick a maximum of five players and both franchises filled the quota to build the core of their team.

Rising Pune Supergiants

Of the 351 players in the auction, only a maximum of 116 players can be bought at the auction. There are 130 capped players and 219 uncapped. Australia has the most capped players with 29, followed by India with 26.

Capped players: Australia 29, India (26), West Indies 20, South Africa 18, Sri Lanka 16, New Zealand 9, England 7, Bangladesh 5 .

Among the uncapped, India have a staggering 204 players in the auctions list with two from associate nations.

Uncapped players: India 204, Australia 9, West Indies 3, South Africa 2, New Zealand 1, Associate nations 2 – Canada & Ireland.

Eight players are termed as marquee players - Ishant Sharma (Rs 2 crore), Shane Watson (Rs 2 crore), Kevin Pietersen (Rs 2 crore), Yuvraj Singh (Rs 2 crore), Dale Steyn ( Rs 1.5 crore), Aaron Finch (Rs 1 crore), Martin Guptill (Rs 50 Lakhs) and Dwayne Smith (Rs 50 Lakhs).

A total of 101 players were retained by the six franchises including 37 overseas players and 61 were released.

After a disappointing last season, where they finished second from the bottom, Delhi Daredevils retained the least number of players — 13 and released 10 players which included high-profile and costly names such as Yuvraj Singh (Rs 16 crore) and Angelo Mathews (Rs 7.5 crore), which means they have the most left in the purse at Rs 37.15 crore out of the total Rs 66 crore available for each team. Mumbai Indians retained the most number of players — 19 and has only Rs 14.405 crore left in kitty.
