Jenkins High School’s Whitney Creech recently became Kentucky’s all-time leading scorer for high school basketball. She’s already reached legendary status in her small hometown of Jenkins, located in southeastern Kentucky.

Whitney Creech’s week of milestones continued Thursday night.

The Jenkins High School senior scored 64 points in an 86-82 loss at Perry County Central, becoming the first boy or girl in Kentucky history to surpass 5,000 career points.

Creech, a 5-foot-9 guard who has signed with Western Kentucky University, now has 5,021 career points. On Tuesday she scored 71 points in a 90-87 overtime victory at Paintsville to pass former Highlands standout Jaime Walz (4,948 points) as the state’s all-time leading scorer.

Creech joined the varsity team at Jenkins as a fifth-grader – scoring five points – and has averaged at least 21 per game since her freshman season. In 23 games this season, she’s averaging 50.9 points for her squad that dropped to 11-12 with Thursday’s loss.
