Members of Bahujan Vidyarthi Sangha, on Thursday, took out a rally here, condemning the alleged police excesses during a students’ protest seeking reservation in private sector at Bengaluru on Wednesday.
The protesters, who began their rally from the Hemavathi statue, raised slogans against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Home Minister G. Parameshwara and the police.
M.S. Yogesh, district convener of the sangha, alleged that the police had beaten up the protesters and abused them in filthy language. “All this was done just because the students wanted reservation in private sector. We had told the government about the protest well in advance. During the protest, all that we wanted was that either we should be allowed to enter the palace grounds or the Chief Minister should come to us for a talk. Our demand was not met and on the contrary, the police resorted to lathi-charge,” he alleged. The protesters said that Uttar Pradesh government had adopted a policy of providing reservation to weaker sections of society in private sector. “We had informed the State government about the UP model. In fact, Mr. Siddaramaiah had assured us that he would study the model and initiate appropriate action,” alleged Gangadhar Bahujan, leader of Bahujan Samaj Party.
