Superintendent of Police A. Ravikrishna on Thursday released flexis containing photographs of over 30 members of five to six Irani gangs, which are on the prowl in Kurnool town and resorting to chain-snatching from women.

The flexis would be displayed at important centres in the town to help people identify the accused and alert the police, he told the media persons here.

The police are on the look-out to nab Jubair, Saleem and other notorious offenders involved in chain-snatching and other offences, he said.

The Irani gang members were natives of Gangavathinagar in Guntakal and Kadiri in Anantapur district, Vayalpadu in Chittoor district and from Dharwad and Gadag in Karnataka, Mr. Ravikrishna said.

Special teams deployed

Thirty-five teams of motorcycle-borne Central Crime Station personnel were being deployed to nab the offenders and create awareness among people through public addressing system, the SP said.

Five teams of plain-clothed police personnel, who were trained by Armed Reserve police to open fire in self-defence, were also pressed into service to nab them, the SP added.

He appealed to the people to alert the police on the movement of vagabonds and strangers in their areas. Closed circuit cameras would be installed in all the areas in the town, particularly at places where people congregate in large number, he said.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) T. Chandrasekhar Reddy, Kurnool DSP D.V. Ramana Murthy and Central Crime Station DSP Hussain Peera were present on the occasion.
