Moga, February 4

Mohali-based ‘conman’ Devinder Gill, alias Thapa, his wife Krispy Khaira and another woman have been booked by the Moga police for allegedly duping senior BJP leader Tarlochan Gill of Rs 7.73 lakh on the pretext of sending his son to Australia on a study visa.

Gill alleged that Gill, Krispy and Pooja Mahajan, a representative of the Bharti Education and Immigration Private Limited, took the money, passport and some documents to get a study visa for Australia for his son. But, they neither sent his son to Australia, nor did they return the money and documents to him.

At present, Gill is lodged at Nabha jail in connection with a land scam. The case was registered by the Mohali police. Many cases of fraud are pending against him at Mohali, Panchkula and Amritsar. He was also booked by the CBI in 2011 on charges of taking bribe for a housing project.

Thapa sought investments for the Sky Height Housing Project, a 100-acre colony with up to 2.5 acre farmhouses on the Chandigarh-Kurali road. Many top police officials and a few doctors took the bait. Once, Thapa worked as a junior clerk with the Registrar of Societies, Chandigarh. But in a few years, he rose to become a land developer.
