This character is close to what I am in real life: Arya
When Bangalore Naatkal (releasing today) was initially offered to Arya, he was apprehensive about taking it on. He says he asked the director why he is remaking a hit film. Cut to now, and Arya, who essays Dulquer Salmaans role in the Tamil remake of the hit Malayalam film Bangalore Days, is quite kicked about the project. He knows the film will have to face comparisons with the original, but hes made his peace with that.
I was apprehensive, and asked why remake such a good film. But then, I realised that there hasnt been a movie about three cousins in Tamil so far, and that made me sign the project. In fact, thats the USP of the project, says Arya.
He was also convinced that of all the three characters in the film, hed fit Dulquers role the most. I am close to this character in real life, too. So, I had no qualms about playing this role. Also, though I saw the film when it was released, I didnt see it after I took this film, and so, I have given my own twist to this character. It helped that I am anyway like him, says Arya. And the comparisons? I know that there is no pressure on me from the audiences side and the only pressure, probably, would come from the media and the critics. But then, comparisons are inevitable, and there will always be people would like the original better. But I honestly dont care. For people who are watching the film for the first time, it would definitely be a treat, he says.
His co-stars, too, says Arya, have more than done the original proud. Parvathy, who has done a fabulous job in the original, was keen on bringing a new facet to her role in the Tamil version, and youd never see Bobby Simhaa in a role like this... he usually gets hot-headed roles. In this one, he plays a character that is more like him. Sri Divya, too, has done a good job. It was fun ragging Rana (Daggubati)... he plays a biker, but doesn't know how to ride. Overall, we had fun shooting the film, elaborates Arya. The only challenge, he says, was filming the bike stunt sequence. Thanks to my naughty teenage years, I was able to pull it off. But of course, I had riders from Coimbatore who helped me with a bit of training. They had come after breaking their bones over this. Thankfully, I didn't break any, he laughs, and leaves us with, Visually and emotionally, the film has come out really well. It is sure to be a good entertainer.
