LONDON — Julie Walters will reprise her BAFTA-nominated supporting role as the acerbic landlady Ma Kehoe in a TV version of the feature film “Brooklyn,” Variety has confirmed. Finola Dwyer and Amanda Posey’s Wildgaze Films, which produced the movie, are developing the TV series with the BBC.

Wildgaze is seeking writers for the TV drama, which will focus on Kehoe’s New York boarding house, and will feature the same group of Irish, British and American young women. The film’s leading actress Saoirse Ronan is not expected to return in her role as Eilis Lacey.

The movie “Brooklyn,” which was released in the U.S. by Fox Searchlight, is set in 1950s Ireland and New York. John Crowley directed the pic and Nick Hornby wrote the script, which was adapted from Colm Toibin’s novel. The film picked up three Oscar nominations — for film, lead actress and adapted screenplay.

The news first appeared in Screen International.
