Ranchi: Jharkhand has not been able to add even 1 kilowatt of power generation to what it inherited from Bihar in 2000 during state formation. Identifying this as one of the major handicap in fuelling growth, the government has decided to augment its own power generation capacity by installing two units of 660MWs at Tenughat Vidyut Nigam Limited (TVNL).
The announcement in this regard was made by chief minister Raghubar Das here on Wednesday while he was handing over appointment letters to engineers and technical assistants appointed against vacancies of three power companies functioning under Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (JUVNL).

Das said that on one hand the state government has formed a joint venture with National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) for capacity enhancement of Patratu Thermal Power Station (PTPS) and on the other is focussing on acquiring adequate manpower to handle increased responsibilities. "This is the first time since the formation of Jharkhand that technical assistants and engineers have been appointed in such huge numbers," he said.
Asking the newly appointed engineers and technical assistants which included switch board operators, junior linesman and assistant operators to desist from corrupt practices, Das said that the profitability of the power companies formed after unbundling would depend upon fair practices and dedication of the workers.
CMD, JUVNL and principal secretary energy SKG Rahate congratulated the successful candidates who were selected through written test and interview.
