MAHBUBNAGAR: The state government has decided to up grade facilities in all government hospitals across Telangana by creating across Telangana by creating intensive care units and diagnostic labs. So far, only teaching hospitals in the state had ICU and diagnostic facilities. Health minister C Laxma Reddy on Wednesday inaugurated an ICU unit at a government hospital in Mahbubnagar.
He said that all government hospitals in the state will soon get the facility.
He said that this was the first time that a non-teaching government hospital in district headquarters in the state has been provided with an intensive care unit and a diagnostic laboratory . Laxma Reddy added that similar facilities will be extended to hospitals at the Assembly constituency level too. Assembly-level hospitals will have 10-bed ICUs.
The minister said that in the first phase, the proposed ICUs will have eight beds. It will be gradually increased to 30 beds. The state government has earmarked Rs 18 crore for upgradation of the district hospital in Mahbubnagar.
The minister also said that the government will allocate funds to government hospitals based on their requirement. He announced that the proposed medical college in Mahbubnagar will start functioning from the next academic year.
