Kevin Rudd's pension questioned

A Liberal MP wants Kevin Rudd's prime ministerial pension cut because he spends so long overseas.
Tasmanian Brett Whiteley told parliament on Thursday he's written to Social Services Minister Christian Porter asking him to look at inconsistencies in pension treatment.
Mr Whiteley was speaking in a debate on a government bill that will cut back the pensions of many Australians who spend more than six weeks out of the country.
After supporting the measure, he said he was concerned by inconsistencies in the way former prime ministers' pensions were treated.
Mr Rudd had spent most of the past 12 months out of Australia, on the speakers' circuit and advertising for Hillary Clinton.
"I don't care whether they are Liberal, Labor or Callithumpian," Mr Whiteley said.
The MP has written to the minister asking him why pensions for former prime ministers should continue indefinitely when the government was changing the rules for other pensioners.
"Why should Kevin Rudd be able to live in New York or wherever for 10 months and collect his pension," Mr Whiteley said.
"I think we should have a look at that.
"The public would expect some consistency."
