The number of RTE seats in the state will go up in the academic year 201617 with 600 new schools being added to the matrix. These are new schools that are be ing opened across the state.
Last year, 49,429 LKG seats LKG and Class I 50,638 were reserved under RTE quota by private schools in the state.Block education officers have started consolidating the number of RTE seats that will be available in the new schools by checking how many of them are minority institutions, because minori ty schools don't offer RTE quota seats.

The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) will soon publish on its website, details of the RTE seats available in each school. “BEOs are collecting data from all the schools, including the old ones. Within a week, the department will notify the RTE admission process dates,“ said K Anand, director (primary education) of DPI.

Pointing out that education department officials and ministers always talk about developing government schools, BN Yogananda, general secretary of RTE Students and Parents' Association, said increasing the RTE quota across private schools will only contradict their aim.
TIMES VIEW
With 600 new schools being opened in the state, the number of seats available under the provision of the Right To Education Act will logically go up, although it's not clear what exactly it will be. This is certainly good news for parents who hope to admit their children under this quota. However, the government should ensure that these new schools strictly comply with the RTE Act. It has failed to crack down on some schools which tried to get away by not admitting kids under this Act. This opportunity to ensure poor kids get a good education shouldn't be lost.
