Arrested on robbery charge

Mettupalayam Police arrested A. Vimal Babu of Shanthi Nagar in Mettupalayam on Monday for allegedly robbing his neighbour’s house earlier that day.

The police said that the complainant O. Rangasamy (35) of Shanthi Nagar, who runs a bakery, sent his children to school and went to the bakery with his wife. Later that evening on retuning home he saw the front door and almirah broken and seven sovereigns jewellery missing.

Based on his complaint, the police registered a case under sections 454 (house-breaking to commit an offence), 457 (house trespass by night to commit an offence) and 380 (theft in a dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code. During the course of inquiry they grew suspicious of Rangasamy’s neighbour A. Vimal Pabu (39), confessed the crime and returned the jewellery.

He was arrested the same night and remanded on Tuesday.
