The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) continued its drive against encroachment of footpath by shopkeepers on D. Devaraj Urs Road on Wednesday.

Several shopkeepers, who used the footpath to display their wares and products, were seen frantically removing the items as the MCC personnel approached their shops.

“Though we did not seize the items, we have warned them that they will be booked for encroachment,” MCC Health Officer Nagaraj said.

The MCC, however, penalised shopkeepers, who had kept their two-wheelers on the footpath in front of their shops.

“We have collected Rs. 200 in fine from each of the three two-wheelers that were parked on the footpaths by shopkeepers,” he said.

Meanwhile, the raids against shops selling plastic bags having a thickness of less than 40 microns also continued on Wednesday.

“We have raided two shops selling plastic bags less than the stipulated 40 micron thickness,” Mr. Nagaraj added.
