Jammu, February 3

While a suspected spy, who was working as a labourer at the Mamoon cantonment in Pathankot, was arrested by the Punjab Police on Monday, one more suspect — an overground worker — was arrested by the

Jammu and Kashmir Police from Surankote in Poonch district on Tuesday.

The suspect arrested by the Punjab Police has been identified as Irshad Ahmed (30), a resident of Poonch district, and the overground worker from Surankote has been identified as Sajjad.

However, the Jammu and Kashmir Police are tight-lipped over the Surankote suspect.

A top police officer, who wished anonymity, said that following the arrest of a suspect at the Mamoon cantonment, Sajjad had been arrested and sent to the Joint Interrogation Centre in Jammu.

“It is too early to say anything on Sajjad,” the police officer added.

Meanwhile, a mobile phone containing pictures of vital installations and sensitive equipment in the cantonment area was recovered from Irshad’s possession.

He has been booked under the Official Secrets Act and a case has been registered at the Shahpur Kandi police station in Pathankot, the officer said.

The arrest comes within a month of the terror attack at the Pathankot airbase, in which seven security personnel and six militants were killed.
