AHMEDABAD: For the first time, National School of Drama (NSD) will stage the satellite festival of Bharat Rang Mahotsav (BRM) for audiences in Ahmedabad. The 18th edition of NSD’s flagship theatre festival BRM has been conceptualized and designed on the theme - ‘Rediscover the magic of theatre’. The festival will be inaugurated by chief minister Anandiben Patel on February 5, and the inaugural play ‘Stories I want to tell you in person’, will be performed by Belvoir group of Australia.

As many as six plays from around the world, along with Indian plays, will be staged during the six-day festival at the HK College auditorium.
Since its inception in 1999, Bharat Rang Mahotsav has been travelling to different cities with selected plays. Last year, in order to connect with communities and audiences, the NSD started organizing satellite festivals in four states. “This year, the festival will also travel to other parts of the country with plays being showcased in Jammu, Thiruvananthapuram and Bhubaneshwar, besides Ahmedabad,” said prof Suresh Bharadwaj, festival controller of NSD.
The performances at the parallel festival in Ahmedabad will include ‘Stories I want to tell you in person (English)’, ‘Arangyagatha (Hindi)’, ‘Barrister Parvate Esham (Hindi)’, ‘Pyramus and Thisby (Singhla)’, ‘Dhulia Oja (Assamese)’ and ‘Pigeon Show: A Play of Fools (English)’.
