GORAKHPUR: Several inmates of
Gorakhpur district jail held a demonstration inside the jail and refused to take lunch on Monday, accusing the authorities of allowing jailed
Samajwadi Party leader Amarmani Tripathi access to a mobile phone and internet on a laptop. The inmates, who assembled for routine morning gathering, created a ruckus and demanded that same facilities be given to them.
However, jail superintendent S K Sharma denied the allegations by inmates, said “No prisoner is allowed to use mobile phone inside the jail.
The charges are baseless. Everything is fine here." He added the prisoners were demonstrating over the issue of meals and the matter has been sorted out. The atmosphere was peaceful on Tuesday, he said.
Tripathi and his wife Madhumani, who are undergoing life imprisonment in the
Madhumita Shukla murder case, were re-shifted to the jail from BRD Medical College recently .
