Free cancer check, subsidized treatment for BPL women

RANCHI: The state cabinet on Tuesday approved the chief minister's free cervical and breast cancer screening scheme for women in the state.
The state government will provide free screening for cervical and breast cancer women patients in the state in addition to providing subsidized cancer treatment.
The scheme will primarily extend to women from households with a gross annual income of less than Rs 72,000 apart from reaching out to women across various socio-economic strata within two years.
Cabinet secretary S S Meena said women between the ages of 21 and 65 will be screened for cervical cancer while those between the ages of 40 and 75 years will be examined for breast cancer. The state government will also provide medical assistance of up to Rs 4 lakh for treatment under Mukhyamantri Gambhir Bimaari Sahayata Yojana.
The cabinet also gave the green signal to the formation of Jharkhand Sarkar Sevak Niyamavali. The new set of guidelines will replace regulations dating back to the pre-Independence era and will clearly define major and minor punishments for government employees and their suspension, compensation and other aspects, the government officials said.
The cabinet approved the running of a pilot food supplement project in the anganwadi centers of Ranchi, Dumka and East Singbhum districts. Under the project, the state government will provide eggs and seasonal fruits to children between the ages of three and six to their midday meals.
The council of ministers also sanctioned Rs 33.608 crore to Jharkhand Urja Utpadan Nigam Limited (JUUNL) for the upcoming ultra mega power plant (UMPP) in Deoghar and Tilaiya. The state will also pay the Bihar government Rs 10 crore as committed advance for purchasing 1000 mega watt electricity from the upcoming UMPP in Banka.
