Polling in old city was by and large peaceful except for stray incidents of attacks on rivals by the AIMIM leaders in different areas during the polling in the evening.

Tension prevailed at Mirchowk police station when MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi along with his followers protested the release of Puranapul candidate Mohd Ghouse, who was taken into preventive custody. Around 4 p.m., Congress leaders N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Mohammed Shabbir Ali came to the Mirchowk police station demanding the release of Mohammed Ghouse. The police, after holding a dialogue with the leaders, released him.

Immediately, Asaduddin Owaisi along with his followers came to the police station. He rushed towards the vehicle of Uttam Kumar Reddy and banged on the car’s bonnet with his fist while his followers smashed the windscreen. The followers then charged towards Mohammed Shabbir Ali and damaged his car. One of them opened the door and rained blows on him.

The police who were present at the station lathi-charged the gathering and dispersed them. A little later, Malakpet MIM legislator Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala allegedly assaulted Mohammed Azam Ali, son of Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, at Azampura around 5 p.m. Azam was standing in his house when the convoy of Ahmed Balala was passing by. Trouble began when Ahmed Balala reportedly pushed Azam and the latter fell down. Later, a few Majlis workers tried to break open the door of the TRS office, adjacent to his house. The Chaderghat police rushed to the place and dispersed the crowd. As polling was drawing to a close, Chandrayangutta legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi allegedly assaulted Jangamet BJP contestant K. Mahender and another person at the Government Junior College for Girls, Falaknuma polling station while the latter was inspecting the booth.
