Celebrating the 10the successful year of MGNREGA, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee held an impressive function at Sumbal Sonwari Tuesday, which was presided over by JKPCC Chief G.A. The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act is designed to provide job guarantee for at least 100 days in rural area of the country, JKPCC Chief G.A. Mir has said this while addressing a function at Sumbal organized on the completion of 10years of MGNREGA.PCC Chief said that through this scheme, all adult members, atleast 18 Years of age, of the families living in rural parts of the country are given non-skilled work. The Act has been formulated to decrease the poverty and ensure overall development of the country especially far flung areas, he said.Describing MGNREGA as one among the major achievements of UPA Govt under the leadership of Dr. Manmohan Singh and Madam Sonia Gandhi G.A. Mir has said that MGNREGA is the largest work guarantee programme of UPA Govt with the main objective of providing and guaranteeing 100 days of employment per year to rural people aiming to address causes of severe poverty through participation in developmental works that are undertaken, thereby ensuring sustainable development at grass roots level, he said. MGNREGA plays a significant role about strengthening the process of devolution of powers and given an essential role to Panchayat Raj Institutions in planning and implementing the developmental works through a common man at the grass roots level.It is a matter of pride for the poor and down trodden sections of the country who have been granted power to decide the developmental scenario of the areas they belong and also enabling them to earn their livelihood with honour and dignity, he said.This achievement of UPA Ist and IInd has given a new direction to the people in far off places by way of ensuring job gurantee to the unemployed and poor people in rural areas. No one can deny the fact that it was the UPA Govt that had started various schemes like MGNREGA, NRHM and other multiple schemes benefitting common people directly with the aim to make the poor people participate in the developmental process besides providing them opportunity to ensure their livelihood through MGNREGA and other centrally sponsored schemes, PCC Chief said.Describing this achievement as a marvelous by UPA Govts PCC Chief greeted entire Congress Leadership for working hard to get the MGNREGA implemented in the entire country. He also hailed Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s personal efforts, who has worked with great enthusiasm thereby taking keen interest in implementing the Scheme in both letter and spirit, across the Country, he said.
