Man attempts to kill self for wife's transfer
Pune: Agitated over the transfer plea of his wife pending, a man tried to set himself ablaze on the premises of the Council Hall on Monday evening.
The Jalna-based man had poured kerosene on his body around 4.30pm on the staircase of the Council Hall, leading to the office of the divisional commissioner. But the officials around acted swiftly and stopped him from setting self ablaze.
Sinhgad Road resident Sanjay Shete (51), an officer at the Council Hall, lodged a complaint with the Bund Garden police later in the day.

A resident of Ambad in Jalna district, Charatsing Kachru Gusinge (29) works in a private firm in Pune. He was frustrated over his wife - a state government employee - not being transferred to Pune from Solapur. He tried to commit suicide because of it, said a source.
"The man appeared depressed over not being able to stay with his wife. He poured kerosene on himself on the staircase of the Seminar Hall on Friday evening. When he was about to set self ablaze, a few officials saw him. They rushed and overpowered him, preventing him from committing suicide," added the source.
Gusinge's wife is a clerk with a state government department. She is posted in Solapur at present.
She had filed an application seeking transfer to Pune so that she could stay with her husband. But the transfer procedure is still pending - apparently the reason behind Gusinge's suicide attempt at the Council Hall.
Senior inspector of Bund Garden police station Madan Mahaddarpure said Gusinge's wife was posted at the tehsil office of Mangalveda in Solapur district. "Despite repeated requests, she did not manage to secure transfer to the Pune city," he said. Gusinge's suicide attempt on the Council Hall premises came as a shock to several officials. "I was shocked to see the man pouring kerosene on himself. I don't support his suicide bid. But I pity the man staying away from his wife," said one among them.
