Raid row: Senior PI suspended

Nagpur: Senior police inspector BM Powar, posted at crime branch, has been placed under suspension for his alleged involvement in a controversy revolving around a raid conducted as in-charge of social service branch (SSB) last year. The officer is learnt to have faced the action for altering the original place of the raid to shield a hotel at Dhantoli. The suspension order was issued by joint commissioner of police Rajvardhan following an inquiry.Powar was also removed from the unit as in-charge and shifted to Economic Offences Wing following the controversy.
The inquiry was being conducted for some time. During the investigation, it was found that Powar had declared Tilak Nagar as the place of raid when the actual raid had taken place in Dhantoli.
Despite a good track record of crackdown on city’s flesh trade and ‘Operation Muskan‘ for rescuing minors, Powar faced the action after top brass found him guilty following statements from his sub-ordinates.
