Muktsar: After getting training under the Centre-sponsored Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) scheme, farmer Shamsher Singh from Chak Madrassa village on Tuesday opened a "Kissan Hut" to sale his produce directly to the public.

Dr Beant Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Muktsar, said there was a lot of scope for farmers in marketing and they must go for it.

Man booked for firing

Amarjit Singh, a resident of Poonia village, has been booked under Sections 336 of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act by the Patti police for opening fire at a marriage function. The accused opened fire at Jaimal Singh of the same village. Old rivalry was said to be behind the incident.

The body of a married woman was found hanging in her house here on Tuesday. Sources said Rajni (23) was alone in her house in Dharam Nagari. A visitor found her body hanging from the ceiling fan and informed her husband Vipan and the police.

Patwari held for graft

The Anti-Corruption Bureau nabbed a Revenue Department patwari while accepting Rs 15,000 bribe in Hanumangarh on Monday. ACB ASP Sahi Ram Bishnoi said CP Goswami of Chak 9BHD had complained that patwari Net Ram Meena had again demanded Rs 15,000 as bribe to execute transfer of agricultural land into commercial. The previous transfer was quashed by the higher authorities.

Gynaecologist Dr Narinder Kaur Dhaliwal (65) committed suicide after consuming celphos tablets at her house on Tuesday. During investigations, it was learnt that after the death of her husband Dr Surinder Singh, Dr Narinder Kaur remained under stress.

Youth gets 10-yr jail for rape

Additional District and Sessions Judge Gurjant Singh on Tuesday sentenced a youth to 10 years of imprisonment for abducting and sexually assaulting a minor Dalit girl. The convict was also fined Rs 20,000. The victim was kidnapped by Harmesh Singh at Korewala Khurd village in the district in January 2015.
