Even after meeting Governor, PDP-BJP silent on govt formation in J&K
The deadlock over government formation in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) is likely to continue as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti asked the centre to take some confidence-building measures for the region before government formation in the state. Following this, J&K Governor NN Vohra called the leaders of the PDP and BJP for a discussion today.

After the meeting, attended by Mehbooba and senior BJP leader Dr Nirmal Singh in Jammu, Vohra said, "BJP is confident to form the government again in the state." Mehbooba said that she does not have the vision and experience that her father and former chief minister J&K, Mufti Mohammed Sayeed had. Adding that she fears that she may not enjoy the goodwill that her father did to convince people to accept unpopular decisions, she said, "It's not about BJP and PDP. We need measures to ensure that the new government springs to action." She also hinted that the PDP-BJP alliance still stands as there are no differences between the two parties.

J&K is under Governor's rule since 8 January, a day after Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, former chief minister of J&K, died in AIIMS in Delhi. According to PDP sources, Mehbooba told her party that the PDP will not form the government until the BJP gives concrete assurances that the vision of late Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, about development and peace in the Jammu and Kashmir state, would be fulfilled.
