City Police to respond positively to suggestions at meet, says police commissioner
Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Police chief M Chandra Sekhar assured affirmative action on what he described as knowledgeable suggestions that came forth at the monthly SC/ST meeting held on Sunday. Suggestions ranged from those related to traffic issues, social evils such as use of narcotics is concerned, or problems that members of SC/ST communities face in educational institutions or members not getting their due in implementation of government schemes.

When leaders Sadashiva Urwastore and Anand Haleyangady drew attention to problems that temporary location of Mangaluru North traffic police station at Honnakatte posed in effective handling of cases in their jurisdiction, Chandra Sekhar assured to take a look at it. M Sanjeev Patil, DCP (traffic and crime) said police from Bajpe and Moodbidri police station attend to traffic cases in their limits and those from North Traffic PS to other areas in North sub-division.
Chandra Sekhar said due thought will be given to ensure that location of permanent Mangaluru North traffic PS is centrally located. "It will be our endeavor to ensure that available personnel in North Traffic PS attend to traffic cases in their limits in the shortest possible time," he said. Road from KPT at Kadri Hills up to Mangaluru International Airport is under Mangaluru North Traffic PS and other areas of North sub-division under Bajpe, Moodbidri PS limits, he said.
Dalit activist Raghuveer Sutterpete noting that Dalit students and teachers face similar kind of problems that the now deceased research scholar of Hyderabad Central University Rohith Vemula faced, urged Chandra Sekhar to organize legal awareness camps for members of dalit communities. Most of these problems arise due to their lack of awareness about plethora of laws that protect them, he said and noted the legal awareness was the only way out from the morass.
