Corporates urged to make desert festival a hit

Jaisalmer: The desert festival is all set to be celebrated with pomp and show from February 20 to 22.
District collector Vishwamohan Sharma in a meeting with the corporates and hoteliers has called them to organise this event at their level and bear the expenses for including new interesting programmes. The festival will start from Sonar Fort which will see addition of events like hasya kavi sammelan.
There are also plans to call singers like Raja Hasan, Himesh Reshammiya, Honey Singh among others. It is also being discussed to organise an international film festival at Sam sand dunes.
In a meeting organised under the chairmanship of Sharma, discussions were held with officials from the corporate world and hoteliers. In the meeting, SP Rajeev Pachar, additional district collector Bhagirath Sharma, CEO Narayan Singh Charan and other people were present. Sharma said that at the desert festival this time events like a high level hasya kavi sammelan, fashion show, international film festival have been proposed. There are also plans to call celebrities like Honey Singh, Gurdas Maan, Jasbir Singh, Raja Hasan, Himesh Reshammiya, but since the department has limited budget, the corporates will have to come forward and take the event in their hands.
District collector asked wind and solar energy officials to organise hasya kavi sammelan along with organizing programmes with B'wood celebrities, and ask hoteliers to sponsor the international film festival. He asked the representatives to discuss the same with their senior officials and revert with a positive reply. and extend cooperation to asstt director tourism. He said that organising such programmes will encourage tourism business at Jaisalmer and give beautiful memories to tourists.

Sharma asked SBBJ to provide assistance of Rs 5 lakh. and also took suggestions of representatives from corporate world. The collector said renowned folk artists will be given an opportunity to take part in the cultural programmes. He said new programmes will be added to the existing list to give the festival a new look. He hoped that corporates would extend economic assistance in organising these programmes. Hoteliers and corporate officials have assured to extend their cooperation.Tourism assistant director Vikas Pandya said the desert festival will start on February 20 from Sonar Fort, while a programme on February 21 will be organised at Shaheed Poonam Singh stadium and Dedasar ground.
The festival will conclude on February 22 at Sam sand dunes. As per the decisions taken, this time, turban tying, moomal moustache, miss moolal, marushree, camel decoration, shaan-e-marudhara, tug of war, panihari matka, etc, will be organized along with cultural performances all through the event.
This time, on the last day of the festival, camel race and kite flying will be held at Sam sand dunes and tourists will be taken on a visit to Kuldhara and Khabha. Cultural programme and fireworks will also take place on the last day of the festival.
