The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has cautioned commercial establishments on D. Devaraj Urs Road against blocking the footpaths by stocking their wares and soiling the streets by dumping wastes. Taking strong note of such practices, the MCC has said that it is an impediment to the free movement of pedestrians and also amounts to encroachment of public space.

MCC Commissioner C.G. Betsurmath has asked commercial establishments to clear the footpaths immediately failing which the MCC would shut down such erring shops and cancel their trade license. The attention of the traders has also been drawn to the practice of throwing garbage on the footpath and/or road on opening the shops in the morning. He said that the MCC has made video recordings of such acts and even clicked pictures as proof. “Mysuru is striving to maintain its reputation as India’s cleanest city and MCC has taken awareness drives to rope in public participation in this endeavour,” he said. D. Devaraj Urs Road is a key arterial road and a business hub, he said and added that tourists flock to this road for shopping. “ ....A section of the traders are creating nuisance and sullying the clean image of the city,” he said. Traders on D. Devaraj Urs Road have been directed to ensure that the waste generated are disposed off appropriately in the bin and handed over to the pourakarmikas. In case the authorities find waste in front of any shop, the shop owner will be liable to be penalised and prosecuted, he said.
