The High Court Karnataka has told eye surgeon Sunitha Agarwal to approach the Supreme Court to affix sun control films on the rear windscreens and side windows of her two cars to overcome certain difficulty faced her during exposure of eyes to sunlight.
Dr. Sunitha had questioned the endorsement given by the police in February 2014 that she can’t be permitted to affix sun control film for her cars as the apex court had on April 27, 2014 banned affixing any type of sun control film on windscreens and side windows of motor vehicles.
Justice A.S. Bopanna, who heard the plea, said that Dr. Sunitha could approach the Supreme Court with her grievance.
The petitioner contended that the apex court had authorised a committee, headed by the State police chief, to grant permission to certain categories of persons to use sun control film and her plea could be considered under such categories.
However, the High Court found that the apex court had authorised a committee headed by the State police chief to permit only VIP/VVIPs to use sun control film for their official cars. The police have ‘no discretion’ to grant her the permission to use sun control film.
