National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL), in association with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), on Saturday organised a regional investor awareness seminar on ‘Securities Market and the Common Man’ at Sri Venkateswara University (SVU).
Delivering the key-note address, SEBI Chief General Manager Prabhakar Patil emphasised the need for investors to undertake a thorough research before investing in a firm. “Instead of relying on fraudulent messages and ponzi schemes, investors should be smart enough to identify an entity with good returns. He / she should be cautious while investing their hard-earned money in capital markets,” he said.
On minimal participation by the public, Mr. Patil said investors should carefully study the behaviour of the market, as it would not only help them strengthening their financial basis but also contribute to the growth of the country. He further spoke of the reforms in capital markets, SEBI’s initiatives and other issues.
NSDL Assistant Vice-President Bandam Srinivas spoke of the changes in capital markets in the past few years. He said only 2 per cent of the country’s population were active investors.
