Pattaya: Great winds, sunshine and smiles make the Royal Varuna Yacht Club (RVYC) Thailand’s top dinghy sailing destination.

Last month, after a vote among 62 countries in Dziwnow, Poland, Thailand was confirmed as the host country for the Optimist World Championships to be held at the RVYC.

Fifty-five teams and 250 young sailors are expected to take part in the event from July 10-21.

“We are very proud that the RVYC will host the Opti Worlds in 2017. This gives us the chance to showcase Thailand as a great venue for international events,” RVYC Rear Commodore Chris Dando said.

“The entries will come from over 50 countries. We are looking forward to building on the expertise gained from the previous World Championships held here.

“We are very lucky that Thailand has good weather for sailing all year round. The Optimist World Championships will also allow young sailors to experience a unique and interesting culture.”
