Superstore is a series about a fictional megastore called Cloud 9. The show revolves around the store’s employees going about their everyday work. In the store, Amy is the floor manager. She is in charge of assigning duties and shifts to all employees. At first glance, Amy looks like a defeated person; she’s had the same job since high school. Amy wears different name tags every week so that customers will not know her real name. Amy likes things to run as they always have in the past, but the arrival of a new employee is causing a stir in the shop. Jonah is a fun loving, sociable and is definitely brighter than most of his co-workers. A sentiment he might have let slip to Amy on his first day. Undoubtedly Jonah gives Amy a bad impression of himself, to which he spends most of his time trying to make up for it.

Dina is Cloud 9's assistant store manager. She is a combative woman who has military training. She treats everything as it were a mission for the army. But Dina is arguably more muscle than brains as he often makes the wrong calls about any given situation. Dina also has a big crush on the new employee Jonah. Garrett is the secret protagonist in the show. He is a Cloud 9 worker and a paraplegic. Garret’s work is making announcements about sales and promotions over the store’s PA system. Garrett knows the dos and don’ts of the Superstore system and he tries to warn his fellow co-workers about them – to which they mostly ignore. Mateo is also a new Cloud 9 employee who started on the same day as Jonah. But Mateo is highly ambitious and tries hard to impress the bosses – to which they do not notice – so he ends up pointing Jonah’s mistakes.

Cheyenne is a teen Cloud 9 associate who is six-month pregnant. Cheyenne is sweet and lovable to all. She is engaged to her wannabe rapper boyfriend Bo. Glenn is Cloud 9's store manager; but how he got to have that position is a mystery to all. Glenn is absentminded, has no fresh ideas and no control whatsoever over the Cloud 9 employees. He often gets reported to corporate by Dina for bringing his religious beliefs into the workplace. Later on it is revealed that Glenn and his wife have no children of their own, but have been foster parents.

The series has real potential to be funny, charming and quirky. Right now though it seems some things are amiss. The cast is very talented and have really good command of their characters. They try hard to make up for what the writing lacks which includes weak punch lines and light humour. The show is relatable as it makes fun of the everyday drama of the workplace. The uniqueness of the show is there is no segregation of the brilliant main characters. Everyone in the show is an oddball with their own individual quirkiness. If the writing improves as of the seventh episode, the series has the potential to be renewed for a second season. The show stars America Ferrera (Ugly Betty). The series was created by Justin Spitzer, who also served as a writer on the hit comedy series, The Office.
